Importing SVG Artwork

Use SVG to DST workflow tools while preserving editable vector geometry and source colors.

Import vector artwork

  1. Choose Import SVG from the start screen or file menu.
  2. Inspect the imported group in Objects, its size, fill/stroke interpretation, order, and colors.
  3. Ungroup only if individual parts need editing, then clean tiny or excessive geometry.
  4. Review stitches and save an .embproj before machine export.

Geometry, paths, and paint

Import supports SVG path, rect, circle, ellipse, polygon, polyline, and line geometry, plus supported groups and transforms. Standard M/L/H/V/C/S/Q/T/A/Z path commands are handled in absolute or relative form. Filled shapes become fill objects. Stroke-only geometry becomes an appropriate line-based outline, running, or satin-style object; fill plus stroke can create separate editable parts.

Normal SVG import preserves source colors rather than applying the last manually selected thread color. Imported parts remain grouped where the source structure supports it. SVG text may remain editable where supported, but complex fonts, layout, effects, or externally referenced text can vary.

What to simplify

Masks, filters, embedded images, unsupported effects, very complex compound paths, tiny objects, and excessive detail are common sources of differences. Simplify the source or convert complex effects to ordinary paths before importing.
