Frequently asked questions

Concise answers about designing, preparing, and exporting with Sew Editor.

General

What is Sew Editor?

A browser-based editor for creating, editing, previewing, validating, and exporting embroidery designs.

Does Sew Editor run in the browser?

Yes. The design workspace runs in a modern web browser.

Is Sew Editor for beginners?

The workflow is approachable, but production still benefits from learning about fabric, stabilizer, hoops, needles, and test stitching.

Import and conversion

Can I convert SVG to DST with Sew Editor?

Yes. Import SVG artwork, prepare editable embroidery objects and stitches, then export a supported machine file.

Can I convert JPG or PNG to DST?

Image Trace creates editable embroidery objects before export. Clean, simple artwork works best.

Can I open machine embroidery files?

You can import DST into the workflow and preview supported DST, PES, JEF, and EXP files. Machine files contain less editable information than .embproj.

Thread and export

Does DST preserve exact thread colors?

No. DST stores color-change stops, not exact RGB colors. Use a Production Sheet or Thread Chart.

Can I export DST, PES, JEF, and EXP?

Yes. Confirm the format and design limits supported by your machine.

Can I save editable projects?

Yes. Save .embproj and open it later to continue editing.
