Opening Machine Embroidery Files
Understand supported machine-file previews, stitch commands, and editable project limitations.
What a machine file contains
Machine embroidery files primarily contain stitch movements and, depending on the format, color changes, jumps, trims, and limited thread information. Sew Editor can import DST into the design workflow and preview supported DST, PES, JEF, and EXP files where the Open Machine File commands offer them.
Open and review
- Use the applicable machine-file open/import command and select a supported file.
- Review decoded dimensions, stitches, jumps or trims, and color sections.
- Treat generic or approximate colors—especially DST colors—as operator references, not recovered originals.
- Use the file for preview, reference, or supported conversion, while keeping the original
.embprojfor revisions.
